Welcome to the Story Kitchen, where we experiment with the ingredients of fiction!

Story Kitchen is about exploring the techniques of fiction. Rather than following a recipe, we like to examine each individual element and experience how it contributes to the overall experience of narrative. We like to play with different tools and techniques to evaluate their function and aesthetic. Our goal is to help you understand your favorite storytelling ingredients so you can create your own story recipes.

To do that, we’re putting together a podcast that’ll be live next month. We’re also planning to run some targeted courses and workshops. And we’re working on a newsletter that’s packed with content, from craft essays, exercises, productivity tips, writing prompts, and other tools that we hope will be useful for you! Sign up for the newsletter below to stay in touch.

Story Kitchen is hosted by Maureen McHugh and Miyuki Jane Pinckard. Come play in our kitchen!
